JH/HS Announcements for 9/9:


Athlete of the week for cross country is Analyce Wilson. Analyce ran her first ever 5k on Friday at Harrison and got 11th overall with a time of 26.02. Keep up the great work Ana!

August reading stats from Mrs. Boyd at LAES!

HECTOR of the Week JH - Esperanza Zarate Gonzales - She has a great attitude. She is very positive and optimistic. She greets all her peers with a smile. She works very hard in class and is eager to learn. She is an excellent addition to our school and a great example of HECTOR.
Staff - Ms. Jenn Pointon - She is an incredible person who has always been there to help everybody at her most capacity. She truly cares about students' successes and making sure that they are ready for life in the real world. She's always been a mother, sister and a guardian of each student here in Las Animas.
HS - Jordan Dupree is eager, excellent, and loves Ag class. She has been far more honest with her grades and respectful toward her teachers. This has culminated in her being a very coachable student and HECTOR in many ways.

LASD 7th - 11th graders: LA Travel will host an informational meeting at 7pm on 9/11 in the cafeteria. Students and parents are welcome to learn about our next trip to Costa Rica!
There is also an FFA meeting at that time. For students involved, that meeting takes precedence.

The Amazing Family Challenge is coming on September 26th - Save the Date!!

Congratulations Mr. Montoya and Mrs. Armstrong for being selected "Staff HECTOR of the Month for August!"
For the month of August I would like to recognize Mr. Montoya. He is a great example of what it means to be HECTOR. His Respect for students allows him opportunities to build relationships, and be a trusted adult they can rely on. His smile, personality, and Optimism make the days and weeks much brighter. Mr. Montoya displays Excellence in all of his coaching and volunteering. You will always see him supporting our Trojans! In the classroom, Mr. Montoya takes the new skills he learns at PD and tries to implement them as soon as possible. He asks questions when he doesn't quite understand, and accepts feedback. His ability to be Coachable has created an environment students love to be in. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Keep on smiling!
Mrs. Armstrong has jumped into a new position and is working hard to engage students and give them the best experience. She continues to make improvements to the systems in place and work toward excellence. Keep up the great work, Mrs. Armstrong.

JH/HS Friday School will start this Friday 9/6 from 8 am - noon

Friday night Football - Las Animas Trojans vs Walsenburg at 7:00 p.m. JH/HS students: come dressed in your favorite warm flannel and get into the game FREE!



HS Football: Orion Martinez as Offensive player of the week, and Cody Netherton for Defensive player of the week.
Orion had 30 carries for 243 yards with 4 touchdowns. Cody had 7 solo tackles with 1 assist. 1 sack, 3 tackles were for loss of yards and also 2 fumble recoveries.

Athlete of the Week for Cross Country is Izabell Trujillo. She has been practicing hard and it showed in Rocky Ford.
She had her best time ever beating her PR by 2 minutes. Keep it up Izabell!

High School Fall Athletes: cheer, volleyball, football, golf, cross country, ESports and managers - Tuesday is the LAST day to get your picture for the Homecoming Trading Cards. Ms. Waring will be in the south hall of the high school during lunch tomorrow (Tuesday 9/4), please stop and get your pictures taken if you did not get it done today.

HECTOR of the Week
JH - Kadence Miller -She has shown great maturity this year. She works very hard in class. She has a very positive attitude and
is a pleasure to have in class. She also works very hard on the volleyball court. She is an excellent addition to our school
and she shows HECTOR all around school!
HS - Armando Varela is extremely respectful and he works hard in academics as well as sports. He is a true role model
for his peers.
Staff - Mr. Legario as staff HECTOR of the week. His passion for math has helped our students understand challenging
concepts, and he does a great job relating topics to the "real-world". He truly cares about student success! He is also
going above and beyond in becoming a new assistant coach for the Las Animas High School Cross Country Team. Keep
up the great work
