Congratulations Abraham Koch, Las Animas Elementary 2nd graders for receiving the "We Honor Award"
2024 marks the 10th Annual “Arkansas Valley - We Honor Awards”. This regional program has transformed into a powerful reminder to our veterans, active duty military members and first responders that our students respect and care about their service. The program allows us to honor students that go above and beyond to help others and show they care.
Abraham Koch has a deep passion for US History. As the son of two historians, he is immersed in historical conversations and learning constantly. He even names his pets after important historical figures! Abraham volunteers at events and re-enactments at Bent’s Fort and Boggsville throughout the year. Below is some information on the outfits that he wears:
For some events, he’s dressed as a soldier’s kid from 1866. His jacket is in the style of the French Zouaves made famous in Algeria and the Crimean War. It was wildly copied by state militias in the 1850s in the United States and by a number of Union Volunteer Regiments during the Civil War. It became popular clothing for kids to show their patriotism at that time.
His other clothing portrays a kid traveling with family along the Santa Fe Trail and is normal clothing for children of the 1840s and 1850s.

Reminder: In order for 8th graders to receive their certificate at Continuation - they must have all their fees paid. You can call the JH/HS office if you have any questions: 719-456-0211
