Do you know why Highway 50 through Las Animas is named Ambassador Thompson Boulevard? It is a tribute to Las Animas native and rancher's son Llewellyn "Tommy" Thompson, a highly respected diplomat and adviser to President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The John Rawlings Heritage Center sponsored a birthday party for Ambassador Thompson at LAES. We celebrated with cupcakes and a special visit from Ambassador Thompson impersonator Tim Baublits. Thank you JRHC staff and volunteers!
