HS Baseball Athletes of the Week:
Bryce Dupree - Bryce had a great game against Hoehne, going 2 for 2 at the plate with 2 singles, 3 RBI's and stealing 1
base in the 8-2 League win.
Armondo Varela - Mondo pitched well vs. Hoehne and had 2 RBI's at the plate.
Gio Chavez - Gio had a great game against Holly. He had 2 doubles, scored 3 runs, and stole a base in the 18-2 win
Zaq Cahill - Zaq was on base each time, stole a base and scored a run against Holly

HECTOR of the Week
JH - 7th Grade - Derrick Montez-Derrick is a great example of HECTOR as a student-athlete. He has excellent behavior
in class. He stays on task. He works well with partners and small groups. Derrick works just as hard in sports as he
does in the classroom. He is a great teammate, and always represents Las Animas with class. We are very proud of
Derrick's effort in and out of the classroom and how he displays HECTOR everywhere he is.
HS - Griffin Boyd is our choice for hector of the week. He is always respectful, caring towards others and is always
willing to help. Griffin never fails to complete his work on time and at a high level.
Staff - My choice for HECTOR of the Week is Dave Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong exemplifies all the qualities of a good
leader. He is driven and dedicated to the success of our students and staff. He steps up to help where needed and juggles
his many roles with grace. On top of that, he always has a positive attitude and an optimism that lights up the hallways
on a daily basis. Thank you for being a great example of HECTOR!

Ashley Montes named 2025 Colorado Council for Learning Disabilities Teacher of the Year Award!
Ashley Montes is a Special Education teacher at Las Animas Elementary School. Ashley has a passion for all students, but especially those that learn in different ways. She has worked tirelessly to develop a Special Education system at LAES that includes push-in support, a Resource Room and an SSN room. Ashley supervises, trains and coordinates scheduling for 8-10 paraprofessionals each year and leads with a kind, firm heart and mind. Our special education department continues to innovate in our service model and our in-group achievement percentile for students on IEPs on the 2024 CMAS was 69ile for math and 61ile for ELA (if you know CMAS results, this is a big deal!). Las Animas School District is incredibly grateful for Mrs. Ashley Montes.
