LASD is proud of Jasmine Avila and would like to congratulate her on this well deserved recognition. Jasmine has been employed by LASD in the High School Food Service for the past year and a half. 👍👏. (Photo and article credit to: Ms. Antonia Vida)
The HERO-WITHIN Award was presented to Jasmine Avila by the CBR YouthConnect. This is a privately-funded community service provided by the organization in which donors sponsor the recognition of honorable youth of the Arkansas Valley who are remarkably resilient.
Jasmine was recognized for her inner-strength that kept her going in a positive way even while
facing adversity, stress and the challenges many kids do not experience. She is developing her own “hero-within” –an inner source of strength and resilience to guide their lives. Jasmine is a terrific example of how to face life’s challenges and become a strong and caring person.
She was nominated by those who know her and was celebrated with a dinner by those who love her. Jasmine received an award certificate, a $25 gift card, and will receive the support and funding for a “Special Opportunity” of her choice. This is something special for her that fits her own personal interests. CBR YouthConnect wants Jasmine to continue to explore her interests and
try new things.
She is an inspiration and role model for the youth of our community, building strength and resilience from within. Wonderful job, Jasmine!

Reminder: there will be SFTD square dance practice tomorrow 3/24 @ 4:00 pm in the cafeteria 💃

Thank you for supporting Las Animas Elementary School!

Mrs. Torrez's 5th grade class partnered up with Bent County Extension Office to help find recipes that are affordable and are easy to make. They were given a list of commodities that someone will typically get at the food pantry along with items that are staples in most households. From these lists, they researched recipes that would best fit these lists and then created a cookbook.
The 5th grade class sold 25 cookbooks for $10 each and presented Sharon Barber a check for $250 as a donation to Helping Hands, the local food pantry in Las Animas. During the presentation, Mrs. Barber shared with the class that she had been doing the food pantry for 20 years.
You can find more information on the food pantry at: https://lasanimashelpinghands.org/ or follow their Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/LasAnimasHelpingHands/
