LAHS Homecoming is next week! Everyone is encouraged to participate and dress up! The parade will be Thursday at 10 am (regular parade route)

For the past 20 years Las Animas Elementary School’s hallway has been a passage into the life of independent reading for students, inspiring them to read as they journey through different worlds. The students of LAES are immersed in the creativity, art, and hard work of our teachers and staff who design, create, and decorate sections of the main hall. This is our school’s tracker for students’ progress toward their individualized goal reached by independently reading, then earning points after accurately passing a comprehension quiz on Accelerated Reader.
Accelerated Reader (AR) is the program used to manage student data and measure the accuracy of the AR tests they’ve taken.
Here are the stats from last year:
Last year there were 30,466 checked-out books, so in the 20 years the AR Hallway has supported approximately 609,320 check-outs.
225 students per year reading an average of 30 minutes a night for 145 school days is 978,750 minutes read..that’s almost a million minutes of reading!
Finally, the total number of life lessons, memorable characters, historical tales, informative articles, or living the imaginary life of inspirational heroes is immeasurable.

Las Animas School District was spotlighted 2 times in the Colorado Department of Education 2025 Promising Practice Book !

Jr. High Volleyball Tournament @ Lamar on Sept. 13:
⛳️The Las Animas Trojan Golf Team played in the Santa Fe League Tournament today in Colorado City at Holly Dot Golf Course. There were 78 golfers total. All players did well. Results: Matthew Dowell shot a 93 and placed 23rd. Kree Wallace shot a 97 and placed 30th. Logan Serves shot a 115 and placed 61st. Isaiah Gallegos shot a 129 and placed 71st.

Athlete of the Week for football, Orion Martinez had a great night against Walsenburg Friday. Orion had 246 yards
rushing with 4 touchdowns on offense. Defensively Orion had 7 solo tackles along with 4 assists.

The Trojan Golf Team competed at the Rye Invite on 9/4. All golfers played well, and huge improvement has been showing, the scores are as follows. Kree Wallace 99 (53rd) Matthew Dowell 103 (56th) Logan Servaes 105 (59th) Hunter Pryor 128 (78th). The Trojans will compete at the SFL tournament at Rye the 9th. Go Trojans!!

BOCES will be coming to read a story with the pre-k room once a month! This month they read “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” afterwards we did 2 fun activities! A color bear sort and a tear and paste activity! The kids had a blast! Thank you BOCES for the fun.
