High School Basketball Athlete's of the Week:
Week 1- Nikki Smith
During the opening week, Nikki's defensive presence and hustle was evident throughout the game. Even though she
wasn't feeling 100%, Nikki gave it her all and helped the Lady Trojans while helping offensively too.
Week 2/3-Malia Ybarra & Chanel LaBarge
Without Malia's consistent defensive pressure, the opposing team's leading scorer would hit her average. Her leadership
on and off the court helps the Lady Trojans as well.
Chanel LaBarge worked against Trinidad to help us come from behind and notch a victory. She scored 11 points in the
4th quarter to help us back from an 11 point deficit. Come to the office for a picture.

Merry Christmas from Las Animas School District!

How cute are these first graders???

At the LASD December School Board meeting, it was approved to start three new sports programs at Las Animas High School. This spring, we will compete in Girl's Golf. The season begins on February 27th and the state championships conclude in May. Cross-country will be in the fall with a start date of August 7th. We will have a boys and girls cross-country team. Lastly, we will have an Esports team. They will compete in computer and Nintendo switch games. Their season will begin in January and last 8 weeks. We are currently looking for coaches for each of these sports. If you are interested, please fill out the employment form on the schools' website, and put the sport program you wish to coach in the position applied for. Here is the link to apply: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOq11NWkTS4t9OIbvjnwyTgUbSPLqjAnpfXRhGOY8D-nACrA/viewform?usp=pp_url.
We are very excited to offer new opportunities for our athletes to compete. Our initial survey shows that we will gain 15 new athletes with the addition of these programs.
