Mrs. Torrez's 5th grade class partnered up with Bent County Extension Office to help find recipes that are affordable and are easy to make. They were given a list of commodities that someone will typically get at the food pantry along with items that are staples in most households. From these lists, they researched recipes that would best fit these lists and then created a cookbook.
The 5th grade class sold 25 cookbooks for $10 each and presented Sharon Barber a check for $250 as a donation to Helping Hands, the local food pantry in Las Animas. During the presentation, Mrs. Barber shared with the class that she had been doing the food pantry for 20 years.

The JH Pure Gold Club has been hard at work this year collecting and sorting items for their Birthday in a Bag Project! They have packed 50 birthday bags and plan to deliver them to schools in the Arkansas Valley to help children have a great birthday! 🥳
