Athlete of Week - HS Basketball
TJ Ortiz - TJ has been a leader on and off the court this season and had a double-double in all 3 of our games last week, keep it up!
Nicholas Duran - Nicholas looks for his shot, and shoots with confidence. Keep working hard Nich.
Varsity- Emma Netherton had a strong showing at the Breaking Blue tournament, earning her MVP as voted by the other coach. She is leading the team in RB and steals. She continues to be a force inside and continues to work on her outside shot.
JV - Reima Alvidrez - She is stepping up and playing positions that she doesn’t normally play. She is very attentive when learning and asks great questions. She played hard against DHPH and had a great attitude during the busy week. Good job Reima.
HS Wrestling: Orion Martinez.
Orion has shown a lot of commitment and discipline this season. At the Rob Mickel Invitational, he earned a 1st place finish with a win over the #5 wrestler in the State.

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s)
The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at Las Animas School District. On December 15, 2023, Las Animas School District will conduct a district-wide reunification drill for staff during our professional development day. Due to this drill you may see unusual activity near the community center. We practice safety drills throughout the year to help our staff and students know what to do in an emergency.
Our school has worked closely with local and State law enforcement to correctly develop and implement safety procedures. The goals of drills throughout the school year are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve our response skills.
Our goal, while practicing important safety procedures, is to be sure all students feel safe.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call us.
